What is a website?
Let's skip the obvious answer
about it being a set of pages on the internet. That's the equivalent of saying a sales brochure is a piece of paper with ink on it. Forget the clever technology bit: a website is just another marketing tool. It must be a key part of your overall marketing strategy (possibly THE key part), but still only a part. It doesn't stand alone by itself. How important it is depends on your business - what you make or do, who your customers are (or could be), where you and they are, and so on.The purpose of a site
may vary. The aim may be to:• attract completely new customers,
• assist sales to existing potential customers (by expanding on details in other advertising media),
• service existing customers (providing answers to questions, repair and maintenance tips, and so on),
• assist sales to existing potential customers (by expanding on details in other advertising media),
• service existing customers (providing answers to questions, repair and maintenance tips, and so on),
or of course, all of the above.
A clever new website will not guarantee that your turnover doubles, but if it is designed and marketed properly and professionally then it may well be a very cost-effective way of increasing your sales.
